All members of the College and University communities are invited to two events in the Wilson College Signature Series. The first event will be a presentation and performance by photographer Richard Misrach and Mexican artist and musician Guillermo Galindo. They will be presenting their project “Border Cantos” for us on Tuesday, September 27, at 7:30PM. You can read about their wonderful project here: http://aperture.org/shop/misrach-border-cantos. As you will see, Misrach spent a number of years documenting the U.S.-Mexican border. Along the way, he collected remains left behind by migrants trying to cross the border: bottles, gun shells, clothing, all sorts of things. He gave these objects to Galindo and Galindo made musical instruments out of these remains. Misrach will present the project—and present several of the photographs from the project—and Galindo will perform on some of the smaller instruments he has made. There will be a reception and book signing immediately after the event; Misrach and Galindo will also meet with students for lunch on the 28th.
The second event will be a performance by the Grammy-award winning Guatemalan singer Gaby Moreno and her band (the entire ensemble will include six performers). They will perform on Wednesday, October 26 at 8:00PM in Richardson Auditorium. Moreno won the 2013 Latin Grammy for Best New Artist. This event is cosponsored by the Program in Latin American Studies.
